2012 Summer Camp Financial Resources & Incentives

 

Camp Ramah in California 2012

 

Below is a list of financial assistance resources to help children attend Camp Ramah in CA this year:

 1st Year Campership Incentive Programs:  Each of the following incentives are designed for kids going to Jewish camp for the first time.  They are sponsored by the Foundation for Jewish Camp, the Jim Josephs Foundation, National Ramah and/or local Jewish Federations.  Visit www.onehappycamper.org for more information and to register.

  • Los Angeles Campership Incentive Program: Designed for children who are first time campers to attend a Jewish residential camp for any length of time and who are enrolled in a public or non-Jewish private school.  1) $1250 tuition grant towards a 4-week Ramah program for children entering grades 4-10 in Fall 2012 2) $750 tuition grant towards a 2-week Ramah program for children entering grades 3-5 in Fall 2012.   
  • San Diego Federation Incentive:  Designed for children who are first time at a Jewish overnight camp for 12 days or longer, reside in San Diego County, and attends a public or non-Jewish private school.  Visit onehappycamper.org to apply for up to a $1,000 camp incentive.

  • Rishon National Ramah Incentive Program: 
    • $1000 to first time 4-week campers
    • $700 to First Time 2-week campers
       The Rishon Incentive is available to campers who are not eligible for the other One Happy
         Camper Programs. Availability is limited. Visit www.onehappycamper.org for more
         information.

 

  • Orange County Campership "passport" Incentive: $1000 tuition grant for first time 5th – 9th grade campers from Orange County who will attend a 4-week Ramah program. For campers attending 2-weeks there is a $700 tuition grant.  http://www.jewishorangecounty.org/passport. 

 

  •  PJ Library Goes to Camp Fund: 
         Available to PJ-associated applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, use the link below. Enter your 
             PJ Goes to Camp referral code on the first page of your online application (if you do not know your code, e-mail
             pjgtc@hgf.org).

$1,000 discount for a 19+ consecutive day session *  $700 discount for a 12+ day session

Eligibility: 1) Current PJ Library subscribers (enrolled in the program on or before Sept. 1, 2011). 2) Siblings of currently eligible PJ Library subscribers. 3) PJ Library alumni.  4) Campers who have not received an incentive from One Happy Camper.

2nd Year Campership Incentive Programs: If your family received a 1st year campership incentive in 2011 you may be eligible for 2nd year funding towards Summer 2012.  If you accessed your incentive from www.onehappycamper.org, please go back to this website to apply and check on eligibility.  If you received a 1st year campership incentive from San Diego or Orange County, please contact Karmi Monsher at 310-476-8571 or karmi@ramah.org

 

Other Organizations Incentives/Scholarships:  Each of the following incentive/scholarships are non-Ramah based and must be accessed by contacting the various agencies.

  • Local Jewish Federation/Bureau of Jewish Education:Funding may be available through your local Jewish Federation or agency of Jewish education.  Please contact them for details.  Some of these resources include:

         

San Francisco Bay Area:

Go to http://www.bjesf.org/financialaid.htm to apply for financial aid from the BJE of San Francisco Bay Area and for details on both the funds available and eligibility requirements.

Greater Seattle Area:

Go to http://www.jewishinseattle.org/camperships to apply for financial aid from the Jewish Education Council at the Federation of Greater Seattle. 

  • Jewish Free Loan: Some cities have agencies offering interest-free loans towards Jewish summer camps.  Please contact your local Jewish Federation to inquire about this service.  Example: Jewish Free Loan Los Angeles - http://www.jfla.org/  
  • Rabbi’s Discretionary Funds:  Request funds through your Rabbi’s office 
  • Synagogue Funds: Request funds thru your synagogue (main office, Sisterhood, Men’s Club)

 

Camp Ramah in California Scholarship Fund:  Any family looking for financial assistance with this year’s summer fees may also apply for a Camp Ramah scholarship.

2012 Financial Aid Application

In an effort to assist our financial aid families, we have made a number of significant changes to this year's financial aid process.  Please complete the entire 2012 Financial Aid application and submit with all required documentation. Previous two years of tax returns (2009 & 2010).  2011 W-2 forms are due by January 20, 2012.  Your financial aid application will be reviewed in January, however, no awards will be made until 2011 income can be verified.  All applications are due by December 30, 2011. In order to retain early payment discounts you must submit your financial aid application before the discount deadline.  See camper application for details.
